"Uncle Kage's Bedtime Stories" The picture above is one of the most moving tributes anyone has ever made for me. At the closing ceremonies of Anthrocon 2001, while I sat on stage with the rest of the directors, a young lady stepped up and handed me a wrapped package. "For Dr. Conway, from Dr. Cott," she said. I was quite curious, and when I unwrapped the package and saw the picture I was speechless. How could I thank someone for such a wonderful gift? Dr. Cott affixed this note to the back of the image, which had been very lovingly placed in a nice wooden frame for me. The artwork is not simply a tribute to Uncle Kage the Storyteller, but also to all of the hard-working folks who help to make Anthrocon such a success. I am as grateful to all of them as I am to Amy Cott for her kindness. Now and then when the work to prepare the convention starts to wear on me and I begin to wonder just why I do it, all I have to do is look at this picture as it hangs on my living room wall, and there are no more questions in my mind. Thank you again, Dr. Cott! I look forward to seeing you at Anthrocon next year. |
